When we speak or think of love it is, of course, usually subjective. With the right motives and intention, it is a word that brings us warmth and joy. To love and to be loved is a natural process of life and whenever love is absent from our lives, this can bring sadness, loneliness and great unhappiness – it may even if this state is prolonged result in ill-health.
We know that when we feel loved we respond with love, and that love is truly a great comforter, a great healer. We think of love as a sentimental and emotional necessity in our lives and perhaps give very little thought to a more objective and altruistic type of love. Whilst our concept of love is purely at the human emotional level, and we find ourselves surrounded by love with its many aspects, we know that despite life’s often turbulent circumstances, we can keep on going doing the best we can. Life indeed throws us many trials, tests and challenges.
However, how often do we think of love at the soul level? Do we understand love as the pure jewel from which we see all the different aspects or qualities that embody the soul consciousness in totality? Do we really understand that love, at its highest and philanthropical form, can change and heal our lives? Think of love as a beautiful pure clear jewel, like a diamond. It sparkles and has many facets. Each of these facets is a soul quality.
To understand love in its utmost form, we need to unfold or develop each soul quality to its highest degree. Why is this necessary? As we unfold these soul qualities, we are, at a spiritual level, expressing these qualities through the love that we share with others albeit on a more altruistic level. Perhaps the quality of detachment is one of the most difficult to show at soul level because often we react from our emotions and thoughts in dealing with a situation.
This of course can be especially true of many other qualities as we tend to react from the personality, either the emotions or the mental vehicle. It is only by the experiences and unfoldment of the soul journey through many lifetimes that we can reach a stage where we can integrate and fuse our personality (which embodies our physical vehicle, emotions and thoughts) with the Soul. Examples of soul qualities are patience, tolerance, compassion, acceptance, detachment, honesty, truth, faith, hope and so on.
What is Love?
Let us look at the word love. If we look from right to left, we see the word ‘evol’. So, is love a path of evolution? Is it through love, and its many facets, that we evolve? What is evolution? It is the path of the soul progressing along the stepping-stones of its epic journey through many lifetimes, unfolding, developing its natural state of being, reminding us that we are creators in embryo. It is through our own soul evolution that we can experience the pure and altruistic meaning of what love is. To discover this meaning life puts us through many experiences, many challenges. It gives us the opportunity to transform the life we are presented with, with love.
Through successive lifetimes, we come back to learn and to unfold our soul qualities, each time by another notch, another degree, another deeper understanding. We incarnate with people that perhaps we have known before, so that we can give love an opportunity to grow and evolve and learn from the past. The beauty of life is that we do get so many opportunities to learn. Sometimes the lessons are harsh, sometimes they are joyful. Nevertheless, each presents us with equal opportunities to grow and evolve.
When we truly experience love with its many facets in our lives, we can begin to transform the conditions and circumstances of our lives. We are then released to become who we really are. This generally entails a change in our thinking, and we can use love as its barometer. When we start changing our thinking, we can change our lives.
When we see life through the eyes of the spirit, we see a greater picture where Love is at its highest-level. Love is the greatest healer. It is through love that we understand life. It is through love that we can cope with the challenges, trials and experiences that life throws at us. Not just the sentimental, emotional love, but love in its highest form. Love that also encompasses other kingdoms of nature, including the environment and the animals. As we learn to evolve and discover true love, we can accept who we are and what we are without judgement, without conditions. In turn, we will also give others this understanding, this acceptance and above all this unconditional love.
This is what sharing love is really about. Yes, we do need the very human understanding and sharing of love at its individual form, but equally we need to understand love at its highest altruistic form. A love that is unconditional, a love that is willing and happy to serve others.
This then is our jewel, our diamond to share and see it multiply in varied forms through our lives.
Let us never forget that we all are aspects of the Creator – the journey of the Soul is the journey of recognition.
