There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. Einstein.
That will do me Albert. Trouble is, when you have just suffered any kind of catastrophic loss it is difficult to label it a ‘miracle’. For those of you who also think you don’t have choice in the direst of circumstances I suggest you read “Man’s Search for Meaning” by Viktor Frankl. Frankl was imprisoned in, tortured and finally released from Auschwitz, one manifestation of hell on Earth during World War II. We always have choice, despite some of those choices appearing to be unpalatable.
Heavy stuff eh? Well, let me take a personal example. In 2015, my wife/partner of 36 years, Anne Stewart passed to spirit. Her departure impacted on all areas of my life. Shortly after, I met Vanessa and we married in 2017. Two years later, one day after the fourth anniversary of Anne’s passing, she too left this incarnation.
I’ll spare you the details for now. When the dust had settled, I chose to carry on. Doesn’t everyone get suicidal thoughts after the passing of someone so close? Maybe. I also chose not to wear black, act like a zombie and inflict any dark moods I had, on others. It would be difficult to say however, that I have been the life and soul for the last three months, but lately I have had my moments.
One of the main planks of Neale Donald Walsch’s wonderful work (Conversations with God) is the concept of ‘separation theology’. In other words, most, if not all, leading religions stress we are separate from God. To communicate with God, we have to go through an intermediary. We are not worthy. Throw in ‘sin’ and you have a recipe (unless you know an exceptional priest) for despair.
What are we on the earth for? To evolve our souls, to know ourselves better, to serve all sentient beings, to endeavour to leave the planet a better place through our having been here, to have a conscious, symbiotic relationship with a significant other, or to become complete within ourselves? Take your pick.
I would have to be convinced anyone who reads this magazine subscribes to the view that life is a bitch and then you die.
Another word for spirituality is connection. We are connected. Energetically we are connected to everything but let me offer some practical and useful guidance – another way of saying “let me remind you who you are.” In the simplest way, at varying times in their lives, your parents and your children will connect with consequences with others. You are part of a much larger family ‘constellation’. Interesting that we have family constellations and we have constellations of stars in ‘outer space’. You have ancestors, stretching back to the very beginning. If you include past lives you these will include times when you-as a spiritual being, as consciousness-featured in other dimensions.
Back to earth. Another (for some, difficult to accept) concept. Your enemies, or those who go against you, are your best teachers. Another connection. I think we can park ‘turning the other cheek’ but have not some of your greatest lessons occurred through betrayal, deceit and even trauma?
So much has been written in quality, spiritual texts about our connection to the Divine, to Source. 17 years ago, I had a breakdown. For 12 months I didn’t care whether I lived or died, but I hid it so well I was still practising as a psychotherapist and no one knew. Four episodes (maybe I’ll describe the others in another article) brought me out of it. One of them was seeing God through the eyes of one of our cats. I have also seen God through the eyes of those close to me. And I have felt the presence of God through those relationships.
Some of you may also know that when we leave the earth plane, the ‘silver cord’ which gives us life, which animates our biological spacesuit, is severed. As consciousness we can’t die for trying, but the body that we may love, neglect or be indifferent to, begins to break down. Imagine if we were cut adrift and floated between this world and the next? Of course, some souls are, and they fail to serve themselves or those they are attracted to ‘down here’ with distinction. Time to move on guys.
Two obvious ways we can change, and the first is preferable, are;
- i) through understanding and
- ii) being taken through a process or technique by a healer or therapist. We are defined by our beliefs and values, our biases and prejudices. We are prisoners of our thoughts and our thoughts can also liberate us from our cell without bars.
Start by making a conscious connection, through meditation (or even have conversations) with loved ones in spirit. As we are all sparks of the Divine, in truth we are all angelic beings, this is one way of connecting to Source. If it helps, go and see a medium. Consciously, regularly, send out Light to every sentient being on the planet. Forgive others, forgive God and forgive yourself. Resenting others is the equivalent of giving them rent free space in your head. Guard your thoughts, be aware of your thoughts and let go (send them back to God’s light) of those which originated elsewhere.
Know that every loving act you commit will ‘raise the vibration’ of all sentient beings. Help people let go of negative emotions, negative thoughts and negative experiences and allow them to see glimpses of the world for what it truly is behind the veil, paradise. And the more of us who do this, naturally, the ‘time’ required to do this will diminish.
We are all connected to Source, we are Source. Go beyond acting as if you believe this. But it may be a good place to start…
Thank you for reading this article. You are richly blessed; it is a privilege and an honour to connect with you consciously in this way.
