It Is What It Is

This is an expression often heard. Does it mean that we just accept what is because there is no other alternative?  But is there not?  There may be times in our lives when just accepting and going along with what is, sticks in our throat. There are of course certain things that we cannot change, that it outside our control, for example, death. However, those who follow a spiritual understanding know that a death, an ending on the physical, is only a beginning on another level. In situations, when others have the responsibility to make decisions for our livelihood, like bosses, there isn’t usually much that we can do about it. And of course, there are many instances where we do truly don’t have much choice but to accept what is, although perhaps sometimes grudgingly.

Acceptance could also be seen as a form of humility, accepting the divine order of things. As Souls we go through so many challenges, trials, and tribulations in life, learning soul lessons and we believe that whatever happens will need to be accepted as part of the divine plan. Accepting what is can also be a sign of giving up or giving in. This happens when we are not in tune with the spiritual essence within. We perhaps see the divine order as something outside ourselves.

Nevertheless, what about another way of looking at acceptance. I quote here from my book Stepping Stones on the Spiritual Path ‘There will come a time, a moment, whether in this lifetime or in another, when the soul will reach a stage when it needs to know more.  It will no longer be satisfied with ambling along. It wants to get hold of its destiny face it, and see where it is going, what it has achieved, and what other lessons are needed. And then the Soul, of its own volition, will become the captain of its ship, it will guide its own destiny, it will face the turbulent seas and storms and steer it through to calmer waters’.

When we understand that we, as Souls, are Co-creators with the Divine, we begin to understand that how our lives take shape is very much in our remit. We can change our destiny by changing how we think about ourselves. When we can truly accept and understand that we, and only we, are totally responsible for how our lives pan out, this is our moment of knowing that we need to change our lives.

Do we truly believe that we are spiritual beings, that the essence of the Creator, the Absolute Being, is within each one of us? If we do, then we can understand how our journey, through the medium of the Soul consciousness, takes us through each lifetime, learning the soul lessons that each lifetime provides us. When we know and truly recognise this Truth of our being, then we can choose the experiences necessary for our growth and evolution.  It is then that, because we have realised that Truth within, we can accept the challenges and happenings of life.

However, perhaps to accept this we first need to know who we really are. What are we made of? It needs to be remembered that the world of spirit is within. This concept may be hard to grasp, and it is humanly natural to look outside ourselves all the time for answers. We are spirit, soul, and body. Spirit is the very essence of the divine. Soul is our consciousness that guides the personality (body) through our many lifetimes experiences.

The Soul’s journey is one of inner exploration and excursion. The whole purpose of our lives is to discover who we really are. What is it that motivates us – what is our purpose? It is by this understanding of ourselves, by realising that we do truly have a purpose, that we can accept the Divine Order of happenings in our lives.

This acceptance then comes from an inner knowing and not from a false humility.

This acceptance can then be transmuted into a divine experience necessary for our expansion of consciousness.

With this acceptance comes peace. This peace come from a space of stillness within, a state of consciousness which is the mystical refuge of our spiritual self. From this state we choose to liberate ourselves from the promptings of the human will. This gives us a new psychological approach to life. This is how we find the power to transform our lives.

Peace and Power – both coming from the same source. This is our divine Will. That Will to Be; the Will to transform; the Will to move forward; the Will to experience new ways of thinking, new ways of being.

And it is in this transformational power that we find that acceptance, that inner peace that we all seek. It is in this state of consciousness that we can move forward as a true spiritual being.

Acceptance brings us peace. Peace brings us Acceptance. It simply means being who we are meant to be.  Spiritual beings on earth in a human body manifesting divinity in its highest expression.
