Have you ever had a ‘feeling’ about things or places that don’t really seem to ‘belong’ to you?
This could be an ‘epigenetic echo’ – this is not a scientific term. It is something that has become a fascinating incidence in some of the sessions I’ve had with my clients that has created some interesting healings to happen with persistent, stubborn issues.
What is Epigenetics?
It is the study of how your behaviours to the environment can cause affect the way your genes work. This differs from genetic changes – epigenetic changes are reversible and do not change your DNA sequence, but they can change how your body reads a DNA sequence.
A client had a neck problem for three years after a bad car accident, something you would most likely expect. Despite much medical and therapeutic treatment, it would not shift. Then we came across an epigenetic echo from an ancestor who had been injured during World War 1. I can tell you it was a surprise to both of us, and the pain relief was instant.
During my training as a Metaphysical healer, I experienced something similar. It moved me deeply, and brought great joy when one of my great, great, great grandmothers ‘came forward’ to speak to me about a problem I was experiencing – she had ‘connected’ to the issue in my body and ‘listened’ to it. There followed an understanding that she too had suffered this problem in her life, it had affected her life and health in a way that related to my journey in this life. Our ancestors are not just our history in the sense of where they had lived, what jobs they had done, who they married – their feelings can also be ‘carried down’ in the membrane of our cells.
I am not a scientist, in fact I was kicked out of science class at school. Had they excited me with this kind of information, related to me as a soul in a human body, appreciated or understand spirituality, I may have behaved a lot better!
So, I invite you to further explore what I am talking about. Just Google Epigenetics – it is fascinating and holds so many answers. There is plenty of information available; I found Bruce Lipton’s The Biology of Belief and his download on Audible The Wisdom of the Cells particularly informative.
There is a fascinating documentary called The Ghost in Your Genes, where they have proven so much of this science.
Many healers now though are realising it is not just this science basis, there is a huge spiritual energy behind this, and this can be such a gift when working within healing practices.

While genetic changes can alter which protein is made, epigenetic changes affect gene expression to turn genes ‘on’ and ‘off.’ Since your environment and behaviours, such as diet and exercise, can result in epigenetic changes, it is easy to see the connection between your genes and your behaviours, environment and conditioning.
Also, the epigenetics we are born with will probably change through the phases of our lives; childhood, adolescence, adulthood etc. Not all epigenetic changes are permanent, some can be added or removed in response to changes in behaviour or environment. Some of these changes can remain for decades and might make the child more prone to certain diseases.
