Have you ever had the feeling that you haven’t yet reached your potential in this life? Perhaps you missed key opportunities, or life circumstances sent you in a different direction from the one you had hoped for. There are so many reasons that people do not manage to fully harness their own power and create lives that express the fullness of who they are. Sometimes we need some help to clear the path so we can find our way to what we really want from our lives.
A TIME OF CHANGE
We are entering a time when age-old institutions are beginning to falter. Some of them are struggling to serve the needs of the people they were created for, and their employees are beginning to question the fairness of the demands that are made of them and the rewards they receive in exchange
The pandemic pressed pause on life as we knew it, and for some people it became obvious that things needed to change, and that life could not simply go back to how it had been before. Many began to ask themselves whether they had been spending their time wisely, and perhaps even to realize that they have choices about where to focus their attention.
As we continue to go through this shift, there is a bigger call to ask ourselves what our hearts really want. If we stop operating from survival mode and make choices that align with our truest desires we can create a space where we can begin to shift our consciousness and truly meet our potential.
The path won’t necessarily be easy – there will be challenges along the way that are intended to test and strengthen our resolve – but the reward comes from aligning the heart’s wishes with our values and the actions we take in the world.
USING THE BODY TO GUIDE YOU
The body has its ways of letting us know when the way we are living our lives is mis-aligned to our true nature. When the signals are chronically ignored, small niggles can turn into life-altering accidents, crippling fear and anxiety, and illnesses that force change. The wisdom of the heart can be accessed by using conscious breath to connect with its energy.
Most of us have had to close our heart energy to some extent in order to protect ourselves from the slings and arrows of life. Often the first breaths reveal the layers of emotional wounds that have kept us small and seemingly stuck. As these wounds are felt and released, contraction gives way to expansion, and what we really want is given space to arise from within us.
CONNECTING WITH SPIRIT
Connecting with the heart via the breath creates a channel through which we can receive new information and understanding about ourselves. The inhale allows us to connect with something bigger than ourselves, and the exhale invites the body to let go of what no longer serves.
CONNECTING WITH THE MIND
For those who don’t yet know what they want, it can be comforting to know that our soul has usually been trying to find ways of expressing our wishes for many years. Often we are sitting alongside something that is important to us, or there are clues in our early lives that can shine a light on what would be meaningful for us and bring purpose. Sometimes we need the help of someone on the outside to join up the dots that we can’t see for ourselves.
LIFE PURPOSE WORK
Life Purpose work provides a creative forum for asking these bigger questions and to take a deeper dive into our deepest desires for meaning and direction. It combines several techniques, including metaphor cards, tarot, dialogue, and breathwork, to help people to gain clarity about what they really want from life. The sessions have a collaborative style and are tailored to the needs of the individual. Some people find it helpful to have a standalone session, while others prefer to have a series of sessions while they go through a process of change.
Our contributions to the world don’t necessarily have to take the form of a career, and they don’t have to be grand or revolutionary either. It is sufficient to feel the pang of dissatisfaction, to allow ourselves to want more from our lives, and to be willing to take ourselves seriously enough to sit with the question. What would it be like to open yourself up to the possibility of having a more satisfying life?
Imagine how different the world might be if we were all living from the wisdom of our hearts.
