Are you in a Spiritual Slump?
It’s a bit of an odd question, isn’t it? We understand what a ‘physical slump’ or being ‘burnt out’ can feel like. But a spiritual one? What does that feel like?
I have noticed over the last month or so (at the time of writing) that many energy/light/spiritual workers seem to have hit a bit of a wall. Not everyone, some are heading out of hibernation, ready to step up but a fair number are feeling the strain – myself included.
What does it look like?
It’s difficult to pin down but are you possibly feeling:
- A bit flat?
- Not quite yourself?
- Reluctant to communicate with anyone?
- Feeling a bit cut off from your guardians/guides/teams?
- Stepping back from people you normally listen to or follow?
These are all little markers that you might be in a bit of a slump or a spiritual burn out – or at least fast approaching one. It’s not a bad thing, but it is ‘a thing’ and should not be ignored. This is not compassion fatigue (where we find ourselves globally) it’s fatigue of a different nature. So, if you are ‘not quite yourself’ and can’t quite ‘put your finger’ on the reason why, you need to tune in to what you can pick up and also to what you cannot connect with.
Gentle warning bells should be ringing if you are struggling to ‘tune in’ when it normally comes easily or your ability to meditate has done a 180-degree flip. When you become aware of them, you can start to put a plan in place. Small steps please.
A case in point.
A month or so ago I was feeling very flat, things that used to enthuse me no longer felt right. I didn’t want to speak or connect to anyone. I could see lots of friends starting to ‘rev up’ and I felt stuck. Typically, I don’t compare myself to others, yet I found myself doing just that. I felt p*ssed off at anything and everything. Which isn’t me.
I knew something was off but didn’t have the energy to ‘dig’ into it. I put it down to Collective Empathy overload and fatigue– I was pretty much sticking my head in the sand and ignoring it all.
Eventually, it became a bit too much. In many ways it felt similar to some forms of depression which I knew made no sense, I had nothing to cause me to fall into that space. I have suffered from depression in the past and this definitely felt different. I sought help from an energy facilitator I know and trust and we realised I was in the middle of a massive energy integration. To be fair, I’m still in it, even now – it’s a full system re-wiring, which takes a bit of time.
Then ‘the team’ started chatting again, not hugely but enough for me to realise what they and I were doing.
What was happening.
Unconsciously, I /we had stepped back from the energy side of things and had been delegating it to my team and my Higher-Self as I felt I was in the way and could be blocking things. It was a wake-up call for me.
I was told very clearly was I needed ‘to move’to actually begin to exercise – I had let it slip over the winter months. And to rest, slow down and breathe.
Many energy workers and facilitators have been working very, very hard over the last year or so, to the extent that they may be drained and not realise it. That push to keep going, going, going had turned itself on and forgotten to turn itself back off again.
I had taken on too much ‘Collective’ work and it was draining my reserves. I was holding space for people and what they were going through but had neglected to save space for myself.
My body steered me towards those simple things in life that were highly achievable but which I had pushed to one side or had forgotten about in my rush to keep going.
So, I began exercising again, finding the combination that worked for me – weights and walking and within two days started to feel more like myself again. And I have kept going. At the time of writing, I am five weeks into it and have seen a big difference.
Concentrate on the physical – this is key.
What ‘the team’ have been bringing through since that point and repeating is simple. Look to the physical self right now. Ask your body what you can do to support the work it does for you – without it, you would not be here. Have that conversation and you may be surprised with what it tells you. For me it was the need to exercise and set up a routine. For you, it may be exercise less, change what you feed yourself, cut something out, add something in, rest, sing, dance. Whatever it is, even if it feels daft. Listen well and take the appropriate action. Trust me, you start to come back into a sense of balance quickly.
Action plans can help.
To prevent the energetic burn-out/lethargy I can feel it trying to creep in, I am taking things one stage further. I am taking a full calendar month away from energy work for others. Now, this is a big thing as this is my day-to-day work. I have been shown very clearly, I have to walk my talk.
If I am advising people to slow down, step away from tech, find the things that bring them balance, I have to do the same. Climbing your way back up from an energetic burnout is not fun, not easy and can make you want to turn away from the whole concept of spiritual work.
It can be, for you, setting time aside each day or each week to do something you love. It makes a huge impact, one that you can’t fully comprehend until you give it a go.
Noticing and listening to the small signs as they start to manifest, means you can take action early.
Look after yourself. Treat yourself with compassion and respect and watch things start to shift.
