Ancestral Respect Or Ancestral BS?

When I was given the topic for this edition I have to confess I came screeching to a complete halt. Seems an easy topic to discuss. Not so for me. As I have a very different viewpoint from many others on this subject. It can be complicated to put into words without them feeling a little aggressive or stroppy.

It took me far, far longer than I would like to admit to even get the first draft written. There’s a bit of tough love in here and it won’t be watering it down and I’m not pulling any punches. Blunt is best for this one.

Consider this a trigger warning if you will.

For some my words may raise anger, others it may raise incredulity/scorn and for some it may give a different perspective not considered before. Only you can control what it brings up for you and what you do with it.

With that said lets get into the bones of this.

Do I honour and respect my ancestral lines?

Yes absolutely, but with some conditions or boundaries.

“What do you mean by that?”

I have learned over time and with personal experience not to blindly trust whatever comes forwards to interact with me at an energetic basis. I have learned instead to engage my discernment first. To question any energy that comes forwards. To check it is what is says it is. It’s in line with the work I am here to do. That it doesn’t put my higher self/purpose at risk.

Some energies come with a glamour and it’s not often talked about.

They can appear to be light filled, positive and exciting. But can be another energy wearing a mask to get your attention. There may be a moment when, or just before, you connect that you get a feeling in the pit of your stomach that this might not be a good idea. Listen to this inner guidance and buy yourself some time.

As someone who hasn’t listen to that inner guidance a few times in her life I will say don’t panic if this happens. There’s nothing that can’t be undone. It may take time and some hard work but you will get there. And you will learn from it. Spinning the situation on it’s head it may be something you help others with in time. I am proof of that if nothing else.

Discernment is key.

Whenever an energy comes forwards I will question it. Asking as many times as is needed what it is, why it’s wanting to connect and what the purpose is in working with me.

I have found that the genuine energies will not care how many times you ask. They won’t get angry, argumentative or aggressive. Nor will they run away and never return. If you question something and it does any of the above take my advice and step away. That’s the best example of extreme self care right there.

This is the same with any of my ancestral line who wish to try and connect.

Not all ancestors are people you would be friends with now. They are not someone you would want to be associated with or aligned with.

I absolutely respect those who came before me as I wouldn’t be here without them. But I won’t blindly listen to all that would speak to me. After all you can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family.

Not all of them have their descendants best interests at heart. They would instead love for you to continue carrying whatever burden or energy they passed down the line rather than set the burden free.

Ancestral Respect

Ancestral baggage and what it can look like.

You may have spotted my surname is McGregor. Did you know that for 150 years it was actually illegal to use my surname in Scotland? You could be put to death if you did. Quite a bit of baggage on the lines shoulders I’m sure you’ll agree. These things can stick even hundreds of years later.

Myself and many others in my clan have been working on this to dissolve it out. There has been resistance to this work. Believe you me some ancestors haven’t been happy to have this one moved on. As they enjoyed the chaos, anger and bitterness that was carried down through the ages. Being feed with each generation coming through.

However many like myself decided “this sh*t stops here”.

This also goes for other challenges said to “run in the family”. We’ve all heard them. Did you realise it can be a self fulfilling prophecy that only anchors it in that more deeply? When you do, steps can be taken so that things change.

These are the energies that are, to me, all ancestral BS. We have the choice to do something about it. To clear it for those who come after us. As at some stage we become the ancestors. I would rather be one who did the work so those after me don’t have to.

A personal example of telling an ancestor to get lost.

I am all for personal choice and free will and will defend everyones right to this. People who know me are aware of this side of me.

However it would appear one ancestor really didn’t like it. They took a very marked interest in me. But they stayed hidden. It was only through doing work for someone else that it got blasted to the surface. I knew something was off and dug into it all.

I apparently have the capacity to do the work they did. Which they were trying to manipulate in the background to continue where they left off. Thereby bypassing my free will.

My reaction to this once it was isolated by my team was “absolutely no chance in hell sunshine” followed by a string of expletives. A very long string of expletives. Just because I have the capacity to do something doesn’t mean I will/should. Having seen exactly what it was I was utterly repulsed. Under no circumstances would this be happening. So much so that that ancestor was escorted off the property (so to speak) and will never bother anyone else in the line again.

What they hadn’t appreciated was my team and other members of my family standing behind me. Supporting me and holding space as I worked.

They are the ancestors I respect, honour and value. They are those who wish the best for their descendants, who wish to see the line thrive and flourish. As I do.

I will continue to honour them by saying no to anything that would compromise that.

Discernment, discernment then discernment some more.

As with all energies a little bit of due diligence will pay dividends later down the road.

Whatever the energy happens to be, or says it is, question it first. If it feels hinky, or off in some way, or your gut reaction isn’t great then step back. If you are really meant to work with something you will be given another opportunity when you are ready. Take some time.

You’ll thank yourself for it later
