May your heart be set free.
May you find beauty in your footsteps.
May hope always be close.
May the light you seek find you.
May your dream of heaven
be found on earth.
What if… What if we are more than we know? What if this divine aspect, which is perceived as a dream, is more than just a children’s bedtime story?
What if it is a fraction of God within, with the authority of Creation by its side? And what if the spirit within each human had the power to touch the universe, to see the lights that guide our way, to hear the songs that bring to life the flowers, the oceans, and the air that we breathe?
In ancient times humans walked as Gods upon the earth. But when their vanity became corrosive to the human spirit. It was decided that their divinity should be hidden from them. So, they put it into a place that would conceal it from casual endeavour and where it would be unseen by those without compassion. It was put in the deep heart of the human and would become a lost memory, a feeling of a dream that only the courageous and the noble would ever find.
We carry a fraction of light that life’s disparate journey can never ruin; It is a wish that is embedded into the soul of us, a sense of purpose and an inclination of love that will never leave us. It is the immortality we brought to this earth and will take with us when we go. The constant ‘me’ of the thousands of ‘us’ that happen each day. It is the source of a silence we carry deep within ourselves; It is the giver of dreams. A storyteller of distant lands, of wish and hope and more. It invites us to a path we have loved before, a journey of forgotten steps to a place of beauty. A place that our fragile mind dismisses in the sober light of the day as just too fantastic, too wild, and too beautiful.
But this vision is no illusion, it is who we love to be . . . the feeling of our future self; a presence that urges us forever forward in its search for the sacred moments of life. And waits patiently for us to remember the purpose we came here to create.
I find myself at the door to this chamber whenever I have mercy on myself. When I recognise my fallibility as an inevitable truth of life, a consequence of my innocent journey through time. I enter when I recognise my innocence as the greater truth of who I am. It is then that I am in harmony with my soul. A moment before, there were a thousand things that were missing or needing to be done. Now nothing is missing and nothing needs to be done.
When I am in these moments, I feel a compassion for the me, who a moment ago seemed lost, shouting into the face of the wild wind of life. And I feel a sadness that he should feel so burdened and unnecessarily alone. I see that we two, the ‘lost’ of me and the found of me, are family, we are both me. We are inseparable on this earth, and no amount of contempt or self-blame can ever break this truth. It is what makes us human. It is what has made all the great songs of humanity’s journey on earth throughout the ages.
It’s easy to love ourselves when we are feeling good, it’s tricky when we are feeling bad and it can seem impossible when we are feeling ugly. We do not love the grumpy of us, the sad of us, the hostile of ourselves, the parts of us that act as if we do not care. We name them as ‘not us’ and so drive a sword into ourselves, separating ourselves into the good and the bad, the worthy and the unworthy of ourselves. We declare this part of ourselves as a ‘disturber of the peace’ a foe to our purpose, an antagonist to our harmony and so we become the intolerant parent to the hurting child within us, the part in us that is in distress, in need of understanding, in need of love.
When I am quiet enough to hear the whisper of my soul, I am reminded of all that I hold dear, all that I love and all that loves me.
