When someone tells you that you need to find yourself, have you ever wondered “Okay but where?” It’s one thing to toss out this phrase, but there is no map pointing you toward the first step let alone the destination.
Obviously, we know that we’re seeking our true selves, the person we were born to be before adults helpfully confused us, but where is that person? Here’s the good news; I know exactly where you are.
Put your hand on your heart, breathe in for a count of five and out for a count of 5; focus, tune in, and there you are! The location should be no surprise as in our everyday language we include homilies such as go to your heart, what does your heart tell you, or is your heart really in it? We just don’t listen to ourselves as closely as we should. We talk a surprising amount of sense and categorise it as ‘sayings.’
Have you ever thought of your heart as the seat of soul? Consider this process. At some point there is conception, a cell appears, divides, and becomes a tiny collection of cells within the womb. Suddenly there is one “thump” and life begins, a soul has connected. The heart energy centre is now the seat of your soul.
Life starts with the heart, and the heart can communicate; it has more braincells than the brain, and they constantly share information. Life is much easier if we test our hearts first, rather than start with logic.
Logic is created in the outside world, but only your heart’s desire is truth. If knowledge doesn’t resonate with the heart, then it isn’t true for us as individuals. That’s where authenticity is born, and to be authentic you must let those energy centres communicate. The ‘how’ is easy.
Remember that 5/5 breathing? Do that for five minutes every day. According to the HeartMath Institute (www.hearthmath.org) this creates heart/brain coherence. That means they’re resonating at the same energy frequency of 0.10 hertz. A low frequency that slows us down so that we can think more clearly and utilise our emotions more effectively.
It makes me smile to think that we should probably throttle the next person that tells us not to be so emotional. A good reply may be “excuse me, I am not being emotional I am listening to myself!”
We are a human body within a light body (or seven), and that light body is our true self, our soul. Communicating through our heart centre, we can access that soul and all the higher knowledge and wisdom imprinted therein.
A lot of the exercises I do when I teach are to help my clients bypass the faulty logic-first structure and go straight to the soul, to show them their own wisdom. Once we know what a person really wants, then we can use logic to make that work in the real world, and help people create a happy and successful life on their own terms, based on their own truth.
Although the idea of feelings being more important than the incredible logic and flexibility of our amazing minds is often treated with humour, I for one know that I’ve made mistakes by letting logic win, and I know I’m not alone in that. My first marriage is testimony to that, I walked down the aisle thinking “flee” but of course logic and the needs of others stopped me doing that. I didn’t listen to my authentic heart, and I created 17 years of suffering in the process; for both of us.
Authenticity can only come from the heart. If you’re not true to your heart and what you genuinely want, you will not be authentically you, and you will make more mistakes.
Remember the decision-making guidance of “the heart knows best”? You know; you’ve always known, so it should be no surprise, and not at all weird, to realise that to truly know and be yourself you must be in contact with your heart truth and let it tell your brain not the other way around. The brain will work out how for you. But can you really trust your heart?
The term ‘old soul’ is used to describe babies with eyes full of knowledge, and children who will suddenly come out with something ‘adult’ far beyond their age and experience. I’ve lost count of the times a parent or grandparent will tell me that their newest addition is an old soul. Here’s the good news, we are all souls, and all souls are wise, and those souls communicate through the heart. The answer is yes you can trust your heart.
The theme of this quarter is authenticity, and it’s a brilliant, life changing theme. Getting in touch with your truth, yourself, your soul, will change your life for the better, and the great news is that it will be easy!
If you want to live a life that is comfortable to you, if you want to find happiness, if you want the right job, or to find the one rather than the wrong one. If you want to achieve your dreams or even discover them, if you want to be able to speak your truth, communicate through your heart first, and allow yourself to be guided by your soul.
Put your heart and soul into your life and you will never look back!
