Transcending Powerlessness by Taking Greater Agency

There isn’t a soul who has walked this planet that hasn’t at one time, or another felt helpless, inert, and at a loss. However, in these uncertain yet evolving times, global powerlessness is taking place where people are feeling such emotions more times in one year than they would “normally” in a lifetime.

Whether the cause is of your own making or due to circumstances way beyond your control, why you feel powerless at times, is because, you are. Being powerless means that you have temporarily disconnected from your inner control and are unable to draw upon the intellectual resources needed to be in control. Until you find a way of developing greater agency over your life, circumstances that aren’t outside your control but aren’t being managed by your inner control, have governance over your mental and emotional states. You can regain inner control by reconnecting to the source of your inner power through transcendence.

Transcendence is the ability to draw upon your inner knowledge which enables you to rise above that which is disempowering you. A technique associated with self-actualization, which involves the willingness to be self-aware, monitoring your inner world and learning to see yourself clearly, as others see you and not how you see yourself. Rising above results in you being able to step out of the limited understanding of self-consciousness and into the unrestricted understanding of universal consciousness. By doing so you can experience a change in perception, which is an entryway to transcendence.

Reality is a truth, yet perception creates variability, giving you the option to change your reality and therefore, your perception is far more important than your reality. Undergoing, going through traumas, ecstatic or life-changing experiences, including NDE can change your perception, as can inspired thought and spiritual experiences. However, you also have the power to change your perception if you are open to the process by creating a reality based on different variables to the one you are presently living in.

A change of perspective can reduce, if not, prevent you from becoming disempowered by the helplessness and hopelessness incited by these times despite the fact the truth of the reality itself does not change. It’s vital to remember before embarking on changing your reality that to do so knowing it comes with the caveat which is, there isn’t a reality that doesn’t have challenges to face, and heartache to experience, because the realism of life that pervade all the variables of reality. So, your expectations need to be realistic and grounded in common sense otherwise you run the risk of creating an escapist reality steeped in denial and fantasy, which creates a whole new set of disempowering issues.

Taking greater agency over your life means taking responsibility for the consequences of your actions and inactions. It’s the first step to reconnecting to your inner power. Because you are unique, you’ll have your own way of achieving this. Below are some of the tried and tested techniques involved in learning to transcend powerlessness by taking greater agency, some of which you will already be doing; and they are to: –

  • Be prepared to step outside of your comfort zone by questioning what you should do as opposed to what you need to do.
  • Reflect upon other people’s perspectives, especially those who do not align with yours.
  • Develop bigger picture thinking.
  • Look for and focus more on the positives the negatives have revealed.
  • Distance yourself from those who focus solely on the negatives.
  • Develop a sincere desire to consciously know the unvarnished truth of your character.
  • Process your feelings, question your motives and behaviour to see it for what it is not what you would like it to be.

One of the higher purposes of the lockdowns and social distancing is that they have provided you with insights into the challenging and beautiful side your character, parts of which you didn’t know existed until now.

  • Bear in mind is that part of the process of learning to rise above in a meaningful, mindful and purposeful way involves consciously resisting the temptation to be drawn into your most basic of instinctual behaviours, something that is a fear-driven response and occurs naturally when living in unstable, uncertain times.

Ask yourself over the last year if your responses or behaviour has surprised you, have you become more-or-less tolerant, lost your temper more than normal or have you become more even-tempered?

  • When pricked by your actions, allow your conscience, which is a part of your personality, to tell you when it is time to rise above to prevent your inner power from being drained.
  • Question what is obvious to reveal the true inner meaning, which can be variable.

Irrespective of the cause, temporarily losing your inner power is a given in life, when it remains lost or not, isn’t.

For many, the reality of these complex times is one of the most disempowering scenarios anyone can think of. Weary yet trying to hang onto a semblance of normalcy whilst functioning within a pandemic and being asked to adjust to and embrace a still-evolving new norm whilst every fibre in your body is needing to return to the old one, is not an easy existence. Yet, even under these conditions, you can transcend this torturous milieu. As you regain your inner power, you effortlessly create a reality within which you are the centre, your eyes open to the opportunities created by the challenges you face as you learn, grow and evolve into the magnificent individual you truly are, maintaining control of your life by living the art of transcending powerlessness when it occurs.
